In October 2017, when local business owner Bernie Fleming texted his family "I bought some Christmas lights!" no one batted an eye. When he revealed that he had taken over an entire local Christmas light display, jaws dropped.
A local family who had owned the display for years sold their property, leaving a beloved holiday tradition hanging in the balance. Bernie stepped in, determined to build upon the history of this quaint light display with all of the things we love most about the holidays: lights, carols, Santa, and, of course, hot chocolate and warm treats!
Once Bernie purchased the display, he had to assemble the perfect team to rebuild it at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds. Tim Voris accepted the role of Director and embraced the monumental task of recreating a community tradition in a very short time frame. Thanks to the commitment and hard work of the Mock, Collison and Voris families along with Riley, an intricate display that normally took months to set up was ready for opening night in only 4 weeks! Our Thanksgiving opening night could not have happened without their dedication and we are extremely grateful for the time and effort they have put forth in recreating this holiday tradition for all area families to enjoy.
Bring your family, big or small, to take part in the wonder of the season. The Festival of Lights has always been a family affair - we wouldn't have it any other way!
